Career: Producer, director, screenwriter, and actor. Warner Bros., scriptwriter, 1923-33, studio manager, 1928, executive, 1929, executive in chargeof production, 1931; Twentieth Century Films, founder (with Joseph Schenck),1933 (Twentieth Century Films absorbed Fox Films in 1934 to form Twentieth Century-Fox); Twentieth Century-Fox, president in charge of production, 1934-56; independent producer, 1956-62; Twentieth Century-Fox, president, 1962-69, then chairman and chief operating officer, 1969-71. Also wrote pulp fiction and worked as a steelworker, laborer, garment factory foreman, drugstore clerk,and professional boxer.
